Lipstick Art & Love!

Lipstick Art & Love!

Give a woman the right lipstick and she will conquer the world, they say and we concur! Lipsticks are indeed one of the most empowering weapon a woman has ever had. If you get your right shade and apply it perfectly, it can be an instant confidence booster. In the last blog we discussed about how to choose the right lipstick shade for your skin tone. If you don’t find the time to read the whole blog, you can check our Instagram post on the same. Once you have chosen the perfect shade of lipstick from your favorite brand, what you need to hone is applying that lipstick perfectly. If applied incorrectly, there can be rough patches, having uneven color tone, lipstick going outside the edges or excess product flowing all day. Let’s learn how to apply it with love and perfection.

Prep your Lips

Lip care is as important as skin care. Before applying any lipstick prepare your lips for a smooth and soft feel. Exfoliate it with a gentle scrub using coffee grounds or sugar. You can also use a damp toothbrush for exfoliating your lips. Remember to be gentle on your lips as the skin of lips is very thin and delicate. After exfoliating, hydrate and moisturize your lips with a nourishing lip balm. This will ensure that your lips don’t appear flaky and will also increase the longevity of your lipstick.

Prepare the Base

To apply the lipstick, you need to have a uniform base on your lips. If you have got uneven lip color or having cracks on your lips, it becomes even more important to apply a light-weight concealer or foundation to even out the color a little. This will also prevent your lipstick from feathering or bleeding outside your lip line also.

Line up your Lips

Applying lip liner to outline your lips will give a clear shape and will guide you to apply lipstick with more precision. If you want to increase the longevity of lipstick you can apply it properly on the base of lips.

Begin by drawing an X shape along your Cupid's bow to clearly define it. Work your way around the edges of the lips, following the lip line. You can either color in a little more inside the edges or use the lip liner to fill in your entire mouth.

Work on your Lip Shape

"Overdraw your lips with a lip liner that comes close to matching your lip color if you have thin lips," says one beauty expert, Fennell. You'll line a little higher than your natural lip line instead of around it. You only need to overdraw the cupid's bow and the fullest part of your bottom lips for this technique (but never the corners, as you'll end up looking more clownish than chic). Finish with a lip color that's similar to or slightly lighter than your natural lip color.

Apply Lipstick

Now comes the most interesting step of applying the lipstick after all the prepping up is done. Start by applying the lipstick to the center of your upper lip, just below the Cupid's bow, with. Apply similarly on the bottom lip, starting from the center and working your way towards the corners.Avoid applying multiple coats of lipstick to your lips, as this can cause the product to build up and make your lips look patchy and cakey. If you apply too much product to your lips, it may crack or bleed outside of your lips.

Blot your lipstick

This is an optional step that can be skipped if you're in a hurry but blotting your lips will reduce the amount of lipstick that transfers from your lips to your coffee mugs, spoons, and other surfaces, extending the life of your lipstick. Take a soft face tissue and keep it between your lips. This will remove any excess product and prevent slippage outside your lip lines. Don't forget to apply a translucent powder after the first coat and then apply the second coat to set your lipstick and prevent it from flowing all day.

The Mokah Take

While applying the lipstick, lip care and prep is the most important part. Adequate lip care should be done followed by preparing a smooth base for applying lipstick. Also don’t forget to apply lip liner before applying lipstick to give a proper shape to your lips. After applying the lipstick blot your lips to remove excess material. May your lipstick last longer!
