Dear Skin, Bura Na Mano Holi hai!!!

Dear Skin, Bura Na Mano Holi hai!!!

The festive season of Holi is here and we are all really excited to celebrate it with family and friends. These festivals are much needed from time to time to destress and unwind. People nowadays, especially women hesitate to play Holi freely, largely because of the chemical in colours that damage their skin and hair. Even if we use organic/herbal colours, the skin and hair take a toll. And hence, some pre and post skincare tips to make your Holi carefree!

Pre-Holi Skin Care Routine

·Hydrate your Skin – Apply ice cubes on your skin for around 10 minutes. This will close your skin pores preventing the harmful chemicals in the colours from penetrating the skin and causing outbursts.

·Apply moisturizer – After applying the ice-cube, apply the moisturizer which helps in hydrating your skin and will absorb less colour.

·Top it off with a waterproof sunscreen which will protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun when you go out in the open to play Holi. Use a sunscreen with superior UV filters and tested to be safe on skin by dermatologists for it to not react with colors and make your skin sensitive. Make sure you use an SPF 30+ to prevent your skin and reapply it after two-three hours.

·Put some oil in your hair which will provide your hair with a protective shield from the chemicals.

·Prime your lips with some thick lip balm or petroleum jelly to create a protective barrier.

·Protect your nails by oiling them to prevent the colours from staining the nail bed and settling inside the nails.

Post-Holi Skin Care Routine

However good your pre-Holi skin-care routine is you need to take adequate care of your skin after playing Holi also, else it will leave your skin dry and flaky.

·Don’t run into the shower immediately after playing Holi as water will react with colours and make them harder. Spread a layer of light oil over the skin and wait for 10 minutes.

·Cleanse your skin – You should start off by removing colours and dirt from your skin using some foam. Avoid using any alcohol-based soap as it will make the skin sensitive and lead to skin reactions.

·Don’t jump into a hot shower as it will further react with chemicals in your body. Shower in either cold or warm water.

·Don’t try to remove all the colours from your skin by excessive scrubbing as it will exfoliate your skin. Use oil cleansers to remove the colour.

·After the oil cleanser, apply moisturizer to rehydrate your skin and calm your face with mist or serum.

·Drink plenty of water to remove the toxins from your body and clean your body restoring the skin’s natural balance.

Summary Note

Hydrate your skin using moisturizer and sunscreen before playing Holi to block the skin pores preventing the entry of harmful chemicals. Post Holi, remember to gently cleanse your skin with some mild cleanser without affecting your skin. Also, keep in mind that you will not be able to remove all the colour in one go so don’t scrub your skin a lot which will damage your skin post that.
